Ritual Dementia is a adventure game with horror and occult themes. Borrowing elements from the roguelike genre, such as critical stat management, a big emphasis on planning each move with a high probability of permanent death. These elements of high tension are placed in contrast with family tree system. Characters progress through producing offspring with all kinds of different characters. Things like leveling and extra lives are abstracted with raising kin that will replace the player's character when they become incapacitated. Raising a family also has the benefit of having more friendly characters that will help the player, and unlocking new types of characters the player can play as. Families and emotional bonding are required to achieve the game's goal which is freedom from the demons that have invaded the world.
